One more time!

The Kingfield Holiday market is this Saturday November 13th in MLK park gym. It will run from 8:30 to 1 and we will have winter squash, carrots,  kale, swiss chard, broccoli and a few more treats that are still pulling through these cold nights. We will also have information about our 2011 C.S.A.  Our dear friend July Rauls has left us for warmer weather and will be setting up shop outside Knoxville, TN. He will be missed, but it is an essential part of our plan to take over the world. Thanks to all who have shopped with us this year and even as you read this we are already combing through seed catalogs plotting out the fields for next season.

I woke up this morning and realized it was mid way through July already and I had not given a post in some time. Things are going great here at the farm. Our corn is tasseled up, our giant pumpkin is 2 foot around and we have picked our first tomatoes. Look out for the article this weekend in the Minneapolis Star Tribune featuring Tiny Planet. Rick Nelson stopped by and talked to us about some of our heirloom oddities that we grow here.  The C.S.A. is going strong and for anyone wanting to sing up we are taking a few more shares. The price is prorated for the weeks we have already delivered. We will also be offering a fall share box. If you are interested in taking part just shoot us an email or give a call. Here’s a few pictures of what we’ve been doing.

Update

Recently we have had several C.S.A. members ask when our boxes will start and although we have had some great weather we are still planning on starting the 2nd Thursday in June. We will contact all members through email to confirm the first delivery date. If you are planting a garden this year and are in need of healthy chemical free veggie or flower starts we start attending the Kingfield Farmers Market this weekend. The market is across from our drop at Anodyne Cafe on 42nd and Nicolette and runs from 8:30 to 1. Also we will be at the annual Cafe Wren Garden and Art sale for four days over Memorial day weekend in Luck, WI. If you have not been out to this event it is really something special.

Things are moving right along here at Tiny Planet with just under two acres already planted! Onions, scallions, potatoes and artichokes have all joined in with our other crops already in the field. Also to all of you in the St. Croix Falls area, our farmers market in the new library parking lot starts Saturday at 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. We will be there selling many bedding plants, flower baskets and vegetable starts.  If you are in the area definitely stop by and support the market! Here are few pictures to give you a visual of what is happening.

Spring!!!

After a long hard struggle we have finally gotten good water here at the farm. Also the first crops have been planted in the ground. Though our tractor is in the shop until next week we got the walk behind tiller out and worked and worked until we had spinach, peas, radish, beets and carrots in the ground. A good two weeks early this year weather permitting we will have crop by the start of the St. Croix Falls Farmers market May 1st. Don’t worry folks the freshest  and best tasting produce you’ve ever had is on the way!

Farm Update

The season is coming head on. Here at Tiny Planet we have been battling with our well for the past month, but hopefully today victory will be ours! Despite this unfortunate situation we have been pressing on. The greenhouse is looking great with onions, scallions, herbs, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, pansies and petunias all thriving!  We will be at the Eastside Co-op April 10 and the Seward Co-op April 24th if you are  interested in meeting us to learn more about the C.S.A. or just to chat. Also we have confirmed now that Eastside Food Co-op will be a drop site for those of you in NE Mineapolis. Check back soon for pictures of all the wonderful plants coming to life with spring!

Our neighbor & good friend Nick, from Illinois, helped us to set the ground posts to make the greenhouse square.  We opened the boxes and started to assemble the mass of metal in October. We are still working on it…

In November, Our fellow farmers from Foxtail Farm came over at we raised the Hoops:

We are planning a large flower sale on the farm this spring, so the plastic will have to be on by February!

Good Bye 2009

Well it’s finally over after a beautiful November as it seems inevitable that snow and cold temperatures are on the way. We had a great time at the Kingfield Holiday market and surprised ourselves with all the produce still thriving in the mild temperatures. We are almost done building our greenhouse at our new farm here in St. Croix Falls and seed catalogs for the 2010 season are coming in. With this said we are excited about the up and coming year. We will be joined by our good friend come March to help run the farm. Plan on seeing big things with Tiny Planet as our operation grows! C.S.A. information is up on the site now and if you are interested in getting a spot with us please feel free to contact us. Just a little reminder of what the 2009 season did for us.
